Hole 1

A difficult opening par four with a long drive required in order to reach the large, subtly undulating green with a mid-iron. Fairway bunkers guard the left side while out of bounds looms on the right side. A par on hole #1 is a solid start on this demanding hole.

Hole 2

This par four hole is an outstanding example of the great short holes at Knollwood. A risky drive over the left fairway bunker and a few towering oak trees will allow the player a short iron to the green. The two-tiered green sloping severely back to front with deep greenside bunkers makes this the most challenging approach shot on the golf course.

Hole 3

A long drive on this shorter par four will yield a short iron into this tricky back to front sloping green. Large oaks dominate the right side of the hole, and a perfectly placed fairway bunker guards the left side. A fairway wood may be suggested off the tee for longer players as distance control is very important.

Hole 4

This one-shotter is sure to create a challenge for any player. Built in the true fashion of designer C.H. Alison, number four starts from a flat, square tee box and moves to a large, elevated and angled green guarded in front by two deep bunkers that lie “underneath” the surface.

Hole 5

This longer par four requires a straight tee shot to avoid the grove of trees on the right and the fairway bunker on the left. The enormous green is elevated with a large greenside bunker looming on the right. Be careful, a missed shot left and short of the pin or green will run back into the fairway due to the false front.

For the members, this short par five offers a challenging second shot for those bold enough to try for eagle. The fairway curves gently to the right and announces the bold greenside bunkering. A second shot that ends past the flagstick will require a delicate short game as the green slopes severely from back to front.

Hole 7

This par three will bring out the best in the long iron player. Even from the middle, elevated tees, a player will be hitting a long iron into this flat, subtly breaking green. Although everything is in clear view, there are many obstacles to avoid as the pond guards the left side and bunkering guards both sides of the green.

Hole 8

This par five generally plays as a three shot hole, although a shot crafted over the grove of trees on the right side leading up to the green can reward the better player. Intense bunkering guards the landing area and an hourglass shaped green makes tough work of a par or better on this slight double-dogleg hole.

Hole 9

A "signature" hole for Knollwood, this par four requires a precise drive between the large pond on the left and the bunker and trees protecting the right side. The green sits perched on a hill with the stately Men's Locker Building lying behind. A cleanly struck shot to the green will demand a great putter as the green is much like many others; subtly breaking, with a strong slope back to front.

Hole 10

This lengthy par five is another great example of Alison’s design technique. The fairway bunkers com into play off the tee. A few more bunkers play perpendicular to the hole on the second shot. This true three-shot hole features the classic elevated green with bunkers "underneath", again, slopes back to front with subtle undulation.

Hole 11

A great golf course must have a challenging long par four. Eleven requires a lengthy drive to a landing area with three fairway bunkers. Like most of the holes at Knollwood, this hole is straightforward and in front of you tempting you to hit it straight, controlled and solid in order to score.

Hole 12

The large, yet unassuming pond has claimed many golf balls with its deceptive distance and typical swirling winds. The green is protected all around by hillsides or excellent bunkering. The green slopes back to front, making putting extremely difficult in certain areas, especially front and left. Club selection is crucial to success on this outstanding and beautiful short par three.

Hole 13

This tricky little par four has two sets of tees to create two unique tee shots. A tee shot with a fairway wood or hybrid allows the player to have a middle to short iron into the green. The tiered green is protected by bunkers short and right of the green. Skilled putting is certainly a must if you want to score on this hole as the green slopes severely in the middle and has two levels for hole placements.

Hole 14

This lengthy par four requires a drive down the right side of the fairway to allow for a clear angle to the hole, as the left side is guarded by enormous oak trees. On the right side, the newly replaced fairway bunker creates quite a hazard for any player. The green is one of the flattest, yet trickiest green on the course, with subtle breaks and hidden undulations.

Hole 15

This shorter par four was originally meant to play straight up the hill, but now plays as a slight dogleg to the left. A solid drive leaves a shorter scoring iron into a green with a tremendous slope from back to front. The green is perched up in the air, angled back to front and right to left, with a deep bunker on the right challenging the approach and making for difficult saves.

The challenging tee shot on this par five must find the narrow fairway between the difficult bunkers framing the line. A solid tee shot will allow the player to go for the green and tempt fate. The green is protected by a large, deep bunker short and left of the green. A good drive makes this hole a bit easier, but there are still many hazards to be found along the way to make a par.

The middle and back tees require a player to strike a long iron or hybrid over a large and deep front greenside bunker. The approach runs off the right and the green is perched up on a hill to make any up-and-down a challenge. It is arguably the most difficult putting surface on the course. A par is always a great score on this challenging and intimidating hole.

This lengthy par four requires a well-struck drive to the top of the contour in the fairway. This will leave at least a middle iron to the back-to-front sloping green, framed by the large elm that looms behind the green. The final hole is a true specimen of Alison and a fantastic and challenging way to finish a round of golf!
